4. Write Letters
Write and post letters or cards to my mum and my friends. A connecting-with-friends day.
Before
It’s 9.49 am. I have been up for two hours, yet still only just about to start today’s epic letter-or-card-writing day. My writing paper, a choice of writing boards and pens are out at the ready and there is nothing to distract me (other than the mini chores I have earmarked for the time between letters). I have written down ten “lucky” recipients but I am not going to finish that many if I get tired (have you tried handwriting recently? So much more tiring than typing, and so much slower) or lose my imagination in an attempt not to write solely, or even much, about anything related to coronavirus.
After
It’s 7.10 pm. I have written six letters. The chores ended up taking over but I will write all ten letters by tomorrow’s post. I ended up realising I had enough nice writing paper sets that I could write every letter on different paper so opted for letters over (shorter) cards. Yes, my hands ache, and yes, I have that overriding feeling of having repeated myself, at least a little bit, all day (though hopefully not within the same letter), but, no, I did not once mention coronavirus or my usual onslaught of how-are-you-type questions. The letters are basically all about me, which is a bit of an achievement when I don’t feel I have done much that is worthy of note recently.
All in all, an enjoyable day and good to spend most of the day not looking at a screen.
Amongst my chores, a tangent, I made the best Coronation chicken ever. On the downside, as most recipients of my letters will find out, the mayonnaise went horribly wrong, for which I blame either Felicity Cloake (her recipe), my whisk and/or some out of date oil. It would have been fine were mayonnaise acceptable as liquid. But even with plan B Hellmann’s, it really was spectacularly good Coronation chicken.
As I am thinking about food and have the ingredients, including fresh meat for the filling, my fifth project will be to make my own fresh pasta to then make ravioli for dinner.
