Day 3. Writing chapter 2 of 40 Patches

I’m starting this before midday with a view to withholding my lunch until I’ve finished today’s chapter.  This is a new tactic to focus me.

I also have a massive To Do list today, which includes packing for an early morning flight ahead of a work trip tomorrow.  If I get everything done, it will be an achievement of near heroic proportions.  I am in the mood for heroics today, though it’s 11.42 am and all I have done is had a walk, a coffee out and written a comprehensive To Do list (the kind with a lot of crossing-off opportunities, ie making three entries for what is essentially one chore, thus ensuring regular “mission accomplished” highs).

Unsurprisingly, there was a delay of approximately 1.5 hours between posting yesterday and starting chapter 1.  Chapter 1 is dreadful.  I am already resigned to its needing to be re-written but I will plough forth with further chapters as my goal is to get it written in a “timely fashion”, then probably spend ages re-writing and editing it.

The haphazard nature of yesterday’s chapter was possibly a lesson in the advantages of having a clearer idea of structure for each chapter.  I am hoping the lure of lunch will ensure a well-written, structured chapter.

There will now be a gap of hopefully no more than five days before I can next write, due to my being in Dubai.  Maybe I could use the minimal free time I will have, ie flying time, to consider a framework for each chapter … but I wanted to watch three films on each flight; something will have to give.
