I have both surprised and impressed myself that today’s chapter is 30, marking the last chapter of my 30s, the three-quarter mark. I am also currently ahead of my target to write 15 chapters in August.
I ended up writing chapter 29 about karums, a Latvian sweet treat. They are not my favourite food but they were something I ate on my first visit to my dad’s birth/childhood country of Latvia (he was Latvian but as he was in the UK and a British citizen from age 25 to his death at 76, in many respects he was more British than Latvian, but that’s a complicated identity issue). That I liked karums, I unexpectedly and not entirely logically associated them with making me feel a bit more Latvian, a bit more in touch with half of my make-up. That sounds really silly written like that but I could talk my way through it if I had time or pages at my disposal.
Chapter 30 is going to be about my 30th birthday, which I spent in Latvia (another visit) with eight of my closest friends.
The photo is from a walk in Clerkenwell where I met a friend, actually after I’d written this post and completed chapter 30 and the end of my 20s.
