I wrote chapter 26 this morning. I was thinking to write the blog post but found myself in front of my steno instead of this laptop so it seemed silly to put it to one side in order to write this. Chapter 26 is actually about my steno machine so I was probably a bit confused. It was a hard chapter to write because I know so much about stenography and I have been a stenographer since I started my training in January 2002. I ended up writing a lot about what the machine does and about the job itself. At some point in the huge editing process, I will add a few anecdotes, of which there are dozens to choose from.
In between stenoing and blogging, I have started tidying another area of the kitchen, changed some old £1 coins for new ones and started the not-at-all-smooth process of migrating greenbottletree.co.uk to greenbottletree.com. I (or, rather, the person I employed to “improve” my website) have lost a fair bit along the way, including most of my uploaded photographs and draft posts. I have learnt an invaluable lesson with technology, that it’s better to muddle through and remain in control of sorts than to hand it over to someone else to mess up and leave you with almost no clue what on earth they have done or as to why you can no longer do some of the most straightforward things.
