It is extremely windy this morning and I need to walk to the roadside to see if I can shove more recycling into our bin (ie into the neighbour’s bin). It is also raining. This is the kind of weather that stops me from going outdoors for a walk so I will endeavour to be active indoors to at least get 5,000 steps, and I also want to go up the garden to return the SD cards to the two wildlife cameras we have on. No wildlife detected over the past week, despite various deer the week before.
Today, we are fully fibre. A telecoms engineer spent the day with us yesterday, sorting out our home network. We have all manner of new devices, cables, phones, etc. Our download and upload speeds test significantly faster but apparently it will be a bit up and down, particularly for the first few days. So far, so good. I have a Zoom meeting this afternoon so I’ll see how that goes, though in fairness it was usually okay with the previous data SIM/remote router.
The telecoms technician, who’s been here before, came in a van. He arrived bang on time, as they did last time too. However, I did notice after about half an hour that he still hadn’t come indoors and it seemed that Chris was also outdoors. I peered out the window and could see that Chris was manoeuvring his Jeep. I could still hear car noises a few minutes later so looked out again. This time, though I couldn’t see the van, I could see an orange tow rope attached to Chris’s Jeep. There would have been a time when I would have gone outdoors to investigate. However, I know that once you get involved, it’s hard to not be involved, so I stayed upstairs working. When they came back in, both puffed up with the excitement of their morning, I was told that the van had got stuck in mud and Chris had towed the van out, after unsuccessfully placing planks and other objects from around the garden under the wheels of the van. Sometimes, it really is best to keep out the way.
Anyway, we now have fibre broadband, as well as a very muddy parking area. The wind and rain are ongoing and I really do need to go out with the extra recycling before the refuse collectors arrive …
