106. Is the Grass Greener? Errands, painting and likelihood of overachieving

Sunday 23 April 2023

Today is overachievement day as Mitch is here for the day. Today, he will largely be constructing a shed around the frame of an old pig shed and there might be some lawn mowing with a ride-on mower, which sadly isn’t ours. I might actually enjoy mowing if I had a ride-on mower.

My project for the day is to do coat-three of a teal paint on the small room with the charpai bed. I collected nine pictures we’d had framed yesterday (£293 for the nine pictures, which is quite a lot more than the cost of the pictures), most of which are from India and will go on one of the walls I’m currently painting.

While Catherine and Chris were staying, albeit just from lunch to breakfast, we didn’t use the living room area at all, just sitting at the kitchen table. The living room seating area is now much better. We have the original double sofa and armchair, plus my Mastermind chair and Chris’s knee-friendly chair. The walls are still a shade of putty and I still hate the multi-fuel burner. But I know that I also don’t think this house works as being at all open-plan and the living room feels open-plan.

I needed more paint, to collect the pictures and to buy some food for dinner so went out to Galashiels (B&Q), Selkirk (coffee, butcher, baker) and Hawick (framer and weekly fishmonger). I always seem to stop at three towns to do my errands. I have been enjoying the drives around here even more than usual now that there are lambs pretty much everywhere you look. All this countryside is beautiful but it’s frustrating that there isn’t really anywhere to stop as you drive through it.

Painting. I need to get on with the painting …
