223. Is the Grass Greener? Zero degrees and first frost

Frost on the open Velux

It’s zero degrees and there is frost. The kitchen, which has been chilly for a while, had not got below 14°C, went up to 16°C for a day last week but is now 13°C. Last winter, it was down to 7°C. I think that isn’t that cold, but indoors, trust me, it’s huffy-air-bitingly-cold. And 14°C, while without huffy air, is also cold. We are going to need to address the heating issues very soon. Phase one has been implemented, namely that I have ordered two oil-filled radiators.

I sort of thought I’d finished painting the stairwell yesterday (though not the banisters) as the two coats of dark blue look good. However, the wall seems to be patches of shades of blue. I have no idea whether an extra coat will make a difference but I will most likely give it a go. I have done one coat of blue on the banisters but that is really streaky so it looks like it’ll need at least another two coats. I am not a fan of fiddly painting. I amaze myself that for the first paint job I did five different colours This time, I’m doing two. So far, the blue looks good but if all goes to plan it will look better on Sunday when what is currently a mix of white with grey undercoat will be painted a very slightly mustardy yellow.

I still can’t believe it’s the early half of October and it’s zero degrees at 08:30 and frosty. Yesterday, I sat outside for lunch.

Hot lunch outdoors (saag paneer)

I had a very satisfying walk yesterday afternoon, walking along the road in anticipation of Chris driving in the opposite direction to give me a lift home. I not only did my 10,000 steps, I had a very productive chat with myself about some issues I’m trying to resolve with the rewrite of part of my novel. I wouldn’t have gone out or probably progressed those ideas had I not had a Fitbit. I am wildly optimistic I’ll go out for a walk today but heavy rain is forecast tomorrow, which I am significantly less enthusiastic about, particularly in these early days and weeks of the temperature dropping.

Beautiful frosty morning, first of the autumn/winter (12 October)
